Three Classes of People

The ignorant desire this world and they are the majority
The wise desire the Otherworld and they are a minority
The noble desire God and they are the elect

The three classes of people can equally be described as follows,

The ignorant seek this world
The wise seek the real world
The noble seek the real Self

Interestingly, The Quran speaks about three classes of people on Doomsday:

The Companions of the Left Hand
The Companions of the Right Hand
And The Foremost

The first are condemned, the second attain Paradise and the third are brought near to God and these are the elect. The Last Prophet ﷺ said,

"This world is forbidden for the people of the Otherworld
The Otherworld is forbidden for the people of this world
Both this world and the Otherworld are forbidden for the folk of Allah (ahl il Allah)"
(Source: al-Daylami. Validated hadith. Narrated by ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه )

The folk of Allah are those who seek nothing but the solitary One . Below are a few quotes from the great sages within the tradition,

"True detachment is abandoning everything which is not God, including Paradise... He who is detached from the things of the here-below for the sake of the Hereafter - gardens, mansions, maidens, fruits... is detached, but to a lesser degree"
    - Imam al-Ghazali, Ihya, IV, p.221-212

O Lord! If I worship Thee out of the fear of Hell, burn me in Hell,
If I worship Thee with the hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise,
But if I worship Thee for Thine own sake, then withhold not from me Thine Eternal Beauty.
    - Rabia al-Adawwiya

“Some people worship Allah because they fear Him – this is the worship of slaves.
Some people worship Allah   to seek reward – this is the worship of traders.
Some people worship Allah  out of love – this is the worship of the liberated,
and the most excellent worship.”
