The Hadith of Gabriel describes the three dimensions of Islam,
Body, Mind and Heart
Fear, Knowledge and Love
Doing, Knowing and Being
Practise, Belief and Virtue
The three major sciences of Islam are,
Fiqh, Kalam and Tasawwuf
Law, Theology and Sufism
Traditionally, it was necessary to have some grounding in all three sciences.
